Pet Society Advent Calendar and Mad Hatter Outfit – Interesting Tidbits

Here’s some interesting information that I’ve come across with some of the newly released items in Pet Society. If you’ve already purchased an Advent Calendar, which by the way is available for 3500 coins at the Furniture Store, you should know by now that for each day between December 1st – December 24th you will be given a free small gift. These gifts, which look to be ornaments for a Christmas tree, along with the Gingerbread House Advent Calendar and the Holiday Tree Advent Calendar all illuminate and glow in the dark when the lights in the room they’re in are turned off. The same goes with the new Wonderland item Cheshire Cat Plushie as it illuminates and glows in the dark as well. Pretty cool bonus considering the price of an advent calendar is 3500 coins and Cheshire Cat Plushie is 800 coins.  For those prices they better glow in the dark! :)

If you read my post on more information about advent calendars you should know that if you purchase more than one calendar you will still only receive one gift. Also for each day you receive a gift between December 1st – December 24th, the numbered day on the calendar will disappear for that particular day. One interesting thing to note is if you purchased more than one calendar, the numbered day for both calendars will disappear, not just for one calendar. Kind of a bummer considering you paid 3500 coins for a second calendar that isn’t giving you a second free gift but yet it’s numbers are still shedding. How ugly are these calendars going to be by December 25th when all the numbers have fallen off? Definitely not decor material! I’m guessing everyone will either sell/recycle their calendars after Christmas or keep it in their chest to show off for Christmas 2010 or trade it as a rare for anyone willing to trade for a skinless calendar. If Pet Society were a perfect world, which it almost is (We play it to get away from our imperfect world don’t we?), the second calendars should not have their numbers disappear to allow players to enjoy that second calendar as decoration.

Here’s a preview of both calendars with all numbers marked off, not quite as decorative as it was with the numbers still on.

Everyone knows or has heard of Alice in Wonderland which is what the newly released Wonderland items are based upon. If you’ve watched the movie, you’re familiar with the fictional character “Mad Hatter”, who is the eccentric, angry, tea sipping character in the Disney classic. You can’t miss the old fellow with his all green suit, hat and shoes. If you’ve every wanted to dress like him, that outfit is now available in Pet Society at the Clothing Store as part of the new Wonderland items. One thing that interested me about the mad hatter outfit was the 10/6 card on the mad hatter hat. After some investigating I’ve learned that the 10/6 fraction means 10 shillings and 6 pence (old UK currency) which is meant to be the price of the hat. Back in the day in England, which is where the author of “Alice in Wonderland” named Lewis Carroll is from; people known to wear hats with these cards were hat makers. Thus we can assume “Mad Hatter” was a hat maker. In those days it was normal to use mercury in the process of making hats, so “hatters” or hat makers, because of the mercury, often suffered mercury poisoning which caused their minds to be distorted, panicky and confused. Kind of like construction workers working on ceilings not knowing the side effects of asbestos and mesothelioma till years later. I guess now we can understand where Lewis Carroll got the “Mad Hatter” character from and why the characther was so mad all the time. Enough of that history lesson, here’s some of Paborito’s neighbors Baby Boy and Little Princess II wearing the Mad Hatter outfit in all it’s glory. Paborito was so inspired with the Mad Hatter research that he actually bought the outfit himself.
